Wat Markus Huber betreft heeft de Oostenrijkse grüner veltliner internationaal nog niet de reputatie die de druif verdient. Hij heeft zich de afgelopen jaren dan ook onvermoeibaar ingezet om zichzelf steeds weer te overtreffen in kwaliteit.

Volgens Oostenrijk-expert Stuart Pigott is Markus daar zonder meer in geslaagd. Hij schreef: ‘It takes a free-thinker and perfectionist like the 45-year-old Markus Huber, who took over the then tiny family winery in 2000, to make game-changing wines like this.’.

Het geheim van Hubers wijnen is de speciale samenstelling en ligging van zijn wijngaarden. Zo komen de druiven voor deze Grüner uit de koele en hooggelegen terraswijngaard Obere Steigen. De stokken staan aangeplant op een kalkhoudende bodem.

Deze combinatie van factoren geeft een bijzondere finesse aan de wijn, die mooi combineert met visgerechten en salades, maar ook uitstekend als aperitief te drinken is. Proef ‘m zelf en u zult begrijpen waarom Huber tot de elite van Oostenrijkse wijnmakers wordt gerekend.

Proefnotitie

Volle, frisdroge witte wijn met een fraai aroma van rijp geel fruit en tropische nuances. De smaak zet rond en vol in en eindigt met een sappige, kruidige en aromatische afdronk.

Drinken bij

Fraaie, complexe wijn, goed te combineren met rijke visschotels of bijvoorbeeld verfijnde kalfsgerechten.

Houdbaarheid

Op dronk vanaf één à twee jaar na de oogst; gemakkelijk tot zes jaar houdbaar.
